The
business and entertainment hub of the American southeast, Atlanta is an
ever-expanding metropolis with a city population of more than 400,000 people,
and about 3 million people in the surrounding 20-county metropolitan area. Since
its rise from the ashes of Sherman’s forces during the Civil War, Atlanta has
been expanding not just geographically, but politically, socially and
economically. The city is the birthplace of Coca~Cola, as well as illustrious
personalities such as Margaret Mitchell (Gone With The Wind), and Dr.
Martin Luther King. Atlanta was chosen as the site for the 1996 Olympic Games,
which boosted the city into constructing a variety of new venues and
attractions, ranging from Centennial Olympic Park to SciTrek-The Science &
Technology Museum of Atlanta.
